Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Supervision

    • Manage and mentor a team of underground miners, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work culture.

    • Conduct regular team meetings to communicate goals, safety protocols, and operational updates.

  • Safety and Compliance

    • Enforce all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations to ensure a safe working environment.

    • Perform routine safety inspections and hazard assessments, implementing corrective actions as needed.

  • Operational Management

    • Oversee daily mining operations, including ore extraction, drilling, and blasting.

    • Monitor and analyze production metrics to ensure targets are met or exceeded.

  • Maintenance Coordination

    • Ensure the proper maintenance and functionality of all underground mining equipment.

    • Collaborate with maintenance teams to address and resolve equipment issues promptly.

  • Reporting and Documentation

    • Maintain accurate records of production data, safety incidents, and maintenance activities.

    • Prepare and present reports to senior management on operational performance and safety compliance.

  • Continuous Improvement

    • Identify opportunities for process enhancements and implement best practices to optimize efficiency.

    • Lead initiatives aimed at improving operational workflows and reducing downtime.

  • Stakeholder Engagement

    • Liaise with other departments, regulatory bodies, and community representatives to ensure seamless operations and positive relationships.

Job requirements

  • Educational Background

    • A bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related field is preferred.

  • Experience

    • Minimum of 3-5 years in underground mining operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.

    • Proven track record of managing teams and achieving operational targets in a mining environment.

  • Skills and Competencies

    • Strong knowledge of underground mining techniques, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

    • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

    • Proficiency in mining software and data analysis tools.

    • Ability to make informed decisions under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances.

  • Certifications

    • Relevant mining certifications and safety training are required.
