Environmental Engineer - Phoenix Mine Join Nevada Gold Mines in Shaping a Sustainable Future

We're seeking a dynamic Environmental Engineer to join our Environmental Team at the Phoenix Mine. In this role, you'll play a crucial part in safeguarding our environment while ensuring responsible mining practices through effective land management, reclamation, and closure programs.

Key Responsibilities:

Environmental Compliance & Permitting

  • Lead the site's reclamation permit management, including regulatory reporting and cost modeling.

  • Ensure compliance with U.S. Bureau of Land Management regulations and Plan of Operations.

  • Oversee cultural resource programs and develop mitigation strategies

  • Participate in regulatory inspections and maintain agency relationships

  • Support NEPA permitting activities and Plan of Operations modifications

Project Leadership & Planning

  • Drive reclamation planning and execution in collaboration with mine engineering teams.

  • Manage environmental contractors and consultants to achieve project objectives.

  • Develop and maintain environmental management plans

  • Oversee budget development and cost tracking for reclamation/closure initiatives

Technical Excellence

  • Maintain comprehensive environmental monitoring data and agency correspondence.

  • Align operations with ISO 14001 and OH&S 45001 standards

  • Provide environmental training and guidance to staff and contractors

  • Respond to environmental incidents (including occasional after-hours on-call duties)

Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as key liaison between the mine and regulatory agencies

  • Coordinate with supply chain teams for contractor procurement

  • Foster strong relationships with internal and external partners

Job requirements

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental science, environmental studies, hydrology, hydrogeology, mine engineering, ecology, or a related field is essential.

  • Professional Experience: At least three years of hands-on experience managing environmental compliance programs and projects is required.

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong computer skills, including proficiency in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel, are a must.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong presentation and interpersonal abilities are required to flourish in this role.

  • Project Management: Proven capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring that all tasks progress smoothly and efficiently.

  • Collaboration: A talent for building and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders is crucial.

  • Continuous Improvement: Strong ability to identify and implement opportunities for improvement within environmental practices.

  • Mining Knowledge: A general understanding of mining operations is preferred, enhancing your ability to navigate challenges in the industry.

  • Compliance Systems Familiarity: Familiarity with environmental compliance systems and ISO 14001 standards is a plus.

  • Results-Driven: A strong focus on driving results and meeting time-sensitive deadlines is essential for success in this position.

  • Adaptability: Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions throughout the year.

  • Physical Capability: Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
